- AMA,AHA and ANA issue joint statement on Ebola threat (17th Oct 2014)
The American Medical Association, American Hospital Association and American Nurses Association issued a joint statement in face of the Ebola Virus disease threat to America. The press statement emphasizes multilateral approach to Ebola preparedness so as to effectively manage care of Ebola patients in the U.S and ensure safe care for patients, healthcare workers.
The press statement available on the American Medical Association stressed the same goals hospitals, physicians, and nurses have in addressing any Ebola case.
The current epidemics started off Guinea in December 2013 and then spread to Liberia and Sierra Leone. These three countries accounted for most of the cases so far in this present epidemics and have only affected only 3 American citizens.
- WHO declare Nigeria Ebola free.(20th Oct 2014)
World Health Organisation have declared Nigeria Ebola free on the 20th October 2014 after 42 days free of Ebola transmission. The standard requirement for such declaration is 42 days free transmission, that is time two of the incubation period of the disease.
The first case into Nigeria came on 20th July when a an infected Liberian man introduced the disease into Nigeria via Lagos.
