Hipporates in Images

Hippocrates was born on Island of  Kos(Cos) off the coast of Greece where . He was also trained in the asklepieion(healing Temple) of Kos of that time.

 Hippocrates was born  around  460 B.C and died 370 BC. He was an  ancient Greek physician of the  Classical Age. He is acknowledged presently as Father of Orthodox Medicine.

The original Hippocrates Oath was credited to Hippocrates although the current version have been modified over and over.

 Hippocrates was highly regarded by latter day Arabian and Roman Scholars. Hippocrates himself had written may books.During Abbasid caliphs era many Hellenistic scholastic material were translated for use of their scholars. Aphorisms (sayings) of Hippocrates was one of the book of Hippocrates which was translated and commentary was produced around it. These Arabian Commentators and translator help the Hellenistic heritage preservation.

Available Medical Research Grants for African Researchers

Leardal Foundation support research with grants  to promote innovative approaches to more efficient education and implementation and other collaborative health efforts. About 10 million USD was devoted for such effort between 2009-2015. Details here

International Society for Iinfectious Diseases(ISID) Research Grants support research to tune of $6,000 for research not limited to epidemiology, patho-physiology, diagnosis or treatment of infectious diseases, the epidemiology and control of hospital-acquired infections, and modeling of cost effective interventions. Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds, a public foundation funded PhD Fellowships for outstanding junior scientists to pursue basic biomedical research in European institution. Deadline for application are 1 February, 1 June, 1 October of each year. Details here

Signal Processing in Neuron (SPIN) an initiative of Innsbruck Medical University and Innsbruck Leopold-Franzens University plus support from FWF Austrian Science Fund have funded Phd . The entry requirement include  a degree in  human medicine, biological science disciplines, chemistry, pharmacy or psychology. NEWS BRIEF:AMA,AHA and ANA issue joint statement on Ebola threat and others


  • AMA,AHA and ANA issue joint statement on Ebola threat (17th Oct 2014)

The American Medical Association, American Hospital Association and American Nurses Association issued a joint statement in face of the Ebola Virus disease threat to America. The press statement emphasizes multilateral approach to Ebola preparedness so as to effectively manage care of Ebola patients in the U.S and ensure safe care for patients, healthcare workers.
The press statement available on the American Medical Association stressed  the same goals hospitals, physicians, and nurses have  in addressing any Ebola case.
The current epidemics started off Guinea in December 2013 and then spread to Liberia and Sierra Leone. These three countries accounted for most of the cases so far in this present epidemics and have only affected only 3 American citizens.
  • WHO declare Nigeria Ebola free.(20th Oct 2014)

World Health Organisation have declared Nigeria Ebola free on the 20th October 2014 after 42 days  free of Ebola transmission. The standard requirement for such declaration is 42 days free transmission, that is time two of the incubation period of the disease.
The first case into Nigeria came on 20th July when  a an infected Liberian man introduced the disease into Nigeria via Lagos.
