VenaSeal closure system (VenaSeal system) is intended to treat patients with superficial varicose veins of the legs that cause symptoms was today approved by U.S. Food and Drug Administration(FDA). The device would be used to permanently treat varicose veins of the legs by sealing the affected superficial veins using an adhesive agent. It would also serve as alternative to usage of compression stockings etc in patients with superficial varicose vein.
According to the FDA site the device is a sterile kit is made up of an adhesive, a specially formulated n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, and delivery system components that include a catheter, guidewire, dispenser gun, dispenser tips, and syringes. Also according to the manufacturer website, the technique is performed under minimally invasive catheter technique under ultrasound guidance which can be in an office or out-patient setting.
Prior to the approval it was not available commercially in United States of America.
