An Ebola vaccine is more than ever necessary now with dead toll in this present Ebola epidemic (mainly in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia) hitting close to 5,000 death.
There are presently two promising Ebola vaccine trails going on.One of such is by GlaxoSmithKline -GSK based Brentford, England, United Kingdom , currently in first phase 1 safety trials in Mali. Other partners of the pharmaceutical giant in this noble undertaking include US National Institutes of Health’s Vaccine Research Center (VRC), Wellcome Trust, the Medical Research Council and the UK Government.
Phase 1 safety trials are a stage of clinical trial where safety and efficacy of drugs are tested. The numbers of participants of such trail are usually between 20-100.
News have also emerge that Swiss Health Authority have also approved experimental Ebola vaccine for further trails. The trail of experimental VSV-ZEBOV vaccine according to WHO website would be led by University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG).
